Wandering which place that could be which could take you to range of beauties and within your short time booked from busy schedule? So, here is it I could answer Gosaikunda, the alpine freshwater lake located in the altitude of 4,380 m at Rasuwa District. Talking about main attraction of this place would be those 108 glacier lakes ranging from small to medium in size at the land field of 1,030 ha (4 sq. m) as well as Himalayan range seen such as Ganesh Himal and delightful forest covered with various kinds of flora and fauna. Travelers are to be lust with the immense beauty of nature over there.
Gosaikunda also known as Gosainkunda is recognized as a holy place for both Buddhist and Hindu Pilgrimage and also the major festival is carried during Janai Purnima over there by the Hindu Pilgrimage people. In Hindu mythology, Gosaikunda is an abode of Lord Shiva and Gauri. It is believed that when Lord Shiva had drunk the poison which had been stringing his throat, so to cool down his throat he thrust his Trisul into the mountains and extracted water to drink. So, it is believed the creator of Gosaikunda to be Lord Shiva. Also, it is said that taking bath in the holy lake washes all our sorrows, pains and sins. However, Buddhist are said to visit on full moon day and the waters are considered of particular significance during the Janai Purnima festival at the full moon in August, when thousands of pilgrims gather.
Taking about the route or journey to Gosaikunda, it is the shortest and medium level trek destination which can be completed within 5 days in maximum and 7 days in minimum. The journey takes from Kathmandu to Dunche which is about 6-7 hours’ drive. And then a trek to Chandan Bari which is about 5-6 hours walk and directly to Gosaikunda after 7 hours walk from Chandan Bari. The return trek can be the same from Gosaikunda to Dunche and Dunche to KTM. However, if you want to take a longer time you can also go through chisapani-Thulo Syabru- SingGomba- Gosaikunda. The road can be chosen based on the time you have and your condition on trek.
The best season to travel to Gosaikunda would be on Autum and Spring Season or let’s say at the end of February to the beginning of June and at the beginning of September to the end of December. However, the weather is unpredictable there as it can be changed within minutes. So while carrying itineraries, with some warm clothes, gloves, hiking boots, walking steak, water bottle, sun glasses, raincoat, medicine and some food should also be taken. As it is the place of forest and lakes it is obvious you would encounter many insects so having a cap would also be a best option.
Thus, Gosaikunda Lake trek discovers the lakes and mountains of the area followed by ridges, crossing ravines and suspension bridges, winding through rhododendron, oak and pine forests, and also provide an insight into how the people of this area live. For people who have a fascination for culture and mythology as well as a passion for mountains and nature but don’t want to trek at high altitude and also have minimum budget, this is the perfect trip.
